Ivan Krakowski est lauréat de la faculté de médecine de Nancy (Université Nancy I). Il est spécialiste en oncologie médicale et en médecine de la douleur ; il a été médecin des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer (groupe national UNICANCER). Il a exercé comme médecin spécialiste en oncologie à l'Institut Alexis Vautrin à Nancy de 1982 à 2014. Il y exerça les fonctions de chef de service et président de la commission médicale d’établissement - CME, puis à l'Institut Bergonié à Bordeaux où il a été sollicité comme oncologue médical, médecin de la douleur pour coordonner le Département Interdisciplinaire de Soins de Support pour le Patient en Oncologie – DISSPO, département orienté vers la prise en charge des maladies cancéreuses complexes et des symptômes rebelles à toutes les phases de la maladie de 2015 à 2019. Il est président fondateur de l’Association Francophone pour les Soins Oncologiques de Support – AFSOS créée en 2008 ; et membre du bureau de la Société Française d'Oncologie Médicale - SOFOM.
Il a été Président du groupe de traitement médicaux des cancers - GTMC réunissant les oncologues médicaux de la Fédération des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer (devenu UNICANCER) ; membre des Groupe nationaux Tumeurs Uro-Génitales – GETUG, Sarcomes GSF-GETO et de différents groupes d’experts ; Président de la Société Française d’Evaluation et de Traitement de la Douleur – SFETD ; Président d’un des premiers Réseaux régionaux de Cancérologie: le Réseau Régional de Cancérologie ONCOLOR en Lorraine, réseau parmi les pionniers dans les domaines de l’organisation et des outils de RCP et de référentiels inter-régionaux ou nationaux.
En tant que Président de la Société Française d’Etude et de Traitement de la Douleur – SFETD, Ivan Krakowski a participé à la construction et au pilotage du premier plan national de lutte contre la douleur 2002-2005 sous le Ministère de Monsieur Bernard Kouchner. Il a été membre des Comités nationaux de suivi des Plans douleur et des Plans soins palliatifs au Ministère de la Santé ; membre de la Commission Nationale des Stupéfiants – CNSP. Il a été un des trois premiers professeurs associés des universités nommé en thérapeutique au titre de la lutte conte la douleur. Il a été membre du comité scientifique des premiers guidelines français de cancérologie SOR (Standards, Options, Recommandations) et coordonnateur des ouvrages SOR « Douleur du cancer ».
Il a été le promoteur en France dès les années 90 du concept de soins oncologiques de support et premier auteur de l’article cité en référence sur le sujet par la circulaire N° DHOS/SDO/2005/101 du 22 février 2005 relative à l’organisation des soins en cancérologie. En Lorraine, il a participé ou coordonné les enseignements des 2°, 3° cycles et post-universitaires dans les domaines de la cancérologie (DES d’oncologie médicale - DESC de cancérologie), de la lutte contre la douleur et des soins palliatifs (Capacité, DIU inter-régionaux, DESC Grand Est) comme chargé d'enseignement à la faculté de médecine de Nancy.
Il est membre de différentes sociétés savantes internationales dont l’European Society of Clinical Oncology - ESMO, l’American Society of Clinical Oncology - ASCO, la Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer - MASCC. Il est rédacteur en chef adjoint de la revue médicale « Oncologie ".
Il participe à des recherches cliniques en oncologie et en soins oncologiques de support comme coordinateur ou investigateur. Il a été fondateur en 2013 du groupe francophone recherche en soins oncologiques de support UNICANCER-AFSOS. Ivan Krakowski a été investigateur ou coordinateur d’environ 50 études cliniques dans le domaine de la cancérologie (Phase I à IIIB) – traitements spécifiques, traitements de support) et auteur d’environ 100 publications nationales et internationales avec ou sans comité de lecture.
